A FILM ABOUT ANDERS PETERSEN
DIRECTED AND FILMED BY JH ENGSTRÖM
Showed at Swedish Television(SVT), 2006
JH Engström about the film:
“It’s a very straightforward story where I trough my camera have followed a person and a photographer I like a lot. It tells about Anders as an artist, but the fact that we know each other well of course colours the film. It became impossible to separate my friend from the artist Anders Petersen”.

MICHAEL GRIEVE
ARTIST TALK: 21 SEPTEMBER / 7PM
Michael Grieve will present and explain the process of the project Procession. Over a period of three years he embarked on an antithetical journey, a journey once regarded as sacred in the ancient past. The talk will cover the trials and tribulations of this project.
Procession is a meandering process that follows an invisible subject along the trajectory of the ancient road called Iera Odos, stretching 18km from Athens to Elifsina. Procession is a search for meaning by physical effort, with the foot bearing the weight and firmly on the ground, treading across the periphery of a varied urban terrain tangled up with fragments of nature. This is not a tale of two cities but rather the space in-between. An equivalence of opposing elements.
Photographs play with form, merging description with abstraction, distance with closeness, and realism with surrealism. The wild eye is sensitive to the unreal phenomena in the mundane, and incursions of unreality into the real world.

ANDERS PETERSEN
TALK & BOOK SIGNING: 25 MAY / 7pm
On the occasion of the Café Lehmitz exhibition at HWF, Anders Petersen will be conducting a talk about this seminal series that he photographed as a young man in the early 1970’s. Café Lehmitz is an extraordinary portal into the world of a rich array of people in a bar on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. The honesty and intimacy with which Anders Petersen was able to photograph his subjects paved the way for a ‘personal documentary’ genre, emphasising a subjective relationship to lived experience. In these four walls, Anders has captured the life of these people and his connection to them with photographs so raw, we are nearly there, in Cafe Lehmitz.
Anders Petersen will be signing the new edition of Cafe Lehmitz with a forward by Tom Waits.
