Film director and documentary filmmaker
He received the “Special Jury Award” (Montreal 88); the “OCIC” Award in 1993, the “NewBerlinFilmAward 2008”, as well as the “Underground Spirit Award” from the European Film Festival (Palic) in 2009 for his “extraordinary achievement within independent film production”, as well as the “Lifetime Award” in 2014 5.SPFF (Int. Music Documentary Festival, Croatia) “for special achievements in the music documentary film and its industry”.
Since 2006, Schueppel also began working in the field of media art (video installations & photography) and has since exhibited his projects in various national and international exhibitions. His film works have already been shown in important museums and art events around the world, including 'MOMA'-New York, 'ICA'-London, 'Louvre'-Paris, 'Haus der Kunst'-Munich, 'Singapore Art Museum' and 'Documenta14 '-Kassel.
Shows and retrospectives of his films were held at the Greek Cinematheka, Athina (in Coop with Goethe-Inst.), at the “Internacional de Cine” festival (Mar del Plata, Argentina), and at the “European Film Festival” (Palic, Serbia). organized.
Since 2003, Schueppel has also been a guest lecturer for directing and documentary filmmaking at the German Film and Television Academy (DFFB), the Int. Film School Cologne (IFS) and the Nederlandse Filmacademie, Amsterdam. He has led several masterclass workshops on the topics of “music documentary film”, “independent filmmaking” and “digital storytelling”.
